AYEG, with the financial support of UNDP Georgia, commenced the project “Social accountability and improved good governance through civic participation”. The project's goal is to promote institutional mechanisms that would enhance and ensure inclusive policies and civic participation. The project is being carried out in the municipalities of Kvemo Kartli (Marneuli and Gardabani) and Racha-Lechkhumi-Kvemo Svaneti (Oni and Ambrolauri). The project aims to empower women, youth, ethnic minorities to identify, address and advocacy for their needs at the local levels.
The project covers the following components:
- Promoted institutionalized local practices of civic participation in 4 municipalities of 2 regions of Georgia with the aim of increased cooperation between CSOs and local authorities in the decision-making process
- Capacitated local CSOs (working with women, youth and ethnic minorities) on issues of social initiatives identification and civic engagement through mentorship program;
- Established volunteerism practices and piloted mechanisms as innovative ways of civic engagement
- National level advocacy on the practices of civic engagement in the decision-making process with the aim of contributing to State Decentralization Strategy 2020-25.
The project is supported by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Government of Georgia, and is the part of the “Fostering Decentralization and Good Governance at the Local Level in Georgia (DGG)” program.
