Citizen’s participation in program budgeting process on the municipal level

AYEG implemented the project with financial support of “Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ)- Local governance program South Caucasus”. The aim of the project was to strengthen citizens’ participation in municipal budgeting process and to increase accountability. More specifically the project objectives were:

 -    Brochure on budgetary process of municipality and citizens’ participation developed and disseminated.

-    Special guidelines on how to increase public participation in elaboration and implementation of specific programme developed.

-    ‘Mentorship’ provided on making programs citizen oriented with active participation of citizens.

-    Local citizens supported in targeting municipalities to actively participate in programs development process.

- Developed a brochure on municipal budgetary processes and citizen participation guidelines, including considerations for waste management in budget planning.

Project beneficiaries: The project was piloted in 6 municipalities of Georgia: Telavi, Sagarejo, Gori, Khashuri, Borjomi and Akhaltsikhe.
